StartNow - Acting Job Post:
Hi
We’re a group of 4 students, working on a short experimental film. Here’s a synopsis:
“Two strangers find themselves captured in a reality that doesn’t fit their habits at all. Following one of the most unlikely meeting, the two will discover a new unknown reality that only then will reveal the hidden truth.”
We’re looking for TWO dancers/contortions between 18-30s, capable of showing themselves off with some random and cool moves. The idea behind the representation of “different habits” in relation to the surroundings will be shown “backwards” to then be played in reverse, therefore during some scenes the actors will be required to execute their choreography while walking backwards.
We’re not looking for a specific type of person, our characters will only have to show an abstract personality, which we hope to show throughout moves and a bit of facial expression. There are no dialogue, only few SFX, the rest will be covered by music.
Most of the scenes is shot in the city center and dock area. Some others will be shot at prime studios (Kirkstall). Shooting is scheduled to happen between 3 days: 1st, 2nd and 3rd of April.
All actors main expenses, including transportation and food will be covered.

I understand that you might not be in Leeds or at the moment so I would like to ask you if you could provide a short self-taped audition. The deadline for the online applications is the Sunday the 24th.

My name is Andrea and I’m a second year student of filmmaking in Leeds Beckett University. During the first week of April (1st 2nd and 3rd), I’m shooting an experimental movie in Leeds city center. I’ve collected a small crew of 4 people to work on this quite pretentious project we have started to produce about a month ago. We are now looking for actors, possibly dancers. Here’s a synopsis to give you an idea of the concept:
“A strangers find himself captured in a world that doesn’t fit their habits at all. Following to one of the most unlikely meeting with a kindred spirit, the two will get dragged in a new unknown reality that only then will reveal the hidden truth.”
That said, I found you in the list of nearby talents, thus I’d like to offer you the leading role of dancer, whether you wish to be involved in the project. There’s a lot I won’t be mentioning right now, but if you’re interested in the idea I’ll be more than happy to drive you through the whole piece of work.
Here’s some extra useful info:
- The ending will reveal how all the dancing movement have actually been controlled by another version of the main character trying to make themselves fit in and stop being who they are fighting to be (freedom, expressing uniqueness); the overall message is that being yourself is more important than trying to fit in and be someone you're not, “your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life” - Steve Jobs.
- The idea behind the representation of “different habits” in relation to the surroundings will be shown “backwards” to then be played in reverse, therefore during some scenes the actors will be required to execute their moves while walking backwards.
- Apart from some specific movement, there won’t be any specific choreography to be followed, improvisation will work just fine.
- There are no dialogue, only few SFX, as the rest will be covered by music.
- Most of the scenes is shot in Leeds city center, Briggate and Dock area. Some others will be shot at Prime Studios (Kirkstall).
- All your expenses, including travel and food will be covered.

Starting a GoFund:
Hello all!
As you might already know, We’re raising money to cover the cost of our movie, and we are here to share our story with you.
We are a group of 4 NFS students, working on a short experimental film; the synopsis is as follows:
“A strangers find himself captured in a world that doesn’t fit his/her habits at all. Following one of the most unlikely meetings with a kindred spirit, the two will get dragged in a new unknown reality that only then will reveal the hidden truth.”
This particularly ambitious project we’ll require a couple of actors and three consecutive days of active production. Some of the expenses are already covered by the school, but the remaining, including actors travel and food, will entail a little help.
The good outcome of our finished project we’ll heavily affect our final grade, so we aim to put ourselves forward in the pursuit of the best results, combining our knowledge and skills.
On that premise, we need to raise around £300, which is why we have created a GoFundMe to cover the rest of the costs. In order to proceed with the engagement, I’d need you to fill in the “Actor Agreement Form” I’m attaching to this email. Once I receive that, I can book your travel and/or accommodation for the three days. It all need to be done as soon as possible, so I can forward the documents to the health and safety department, and get signed off to shoot.
The options we came up with are as follow:
- 3 days return train ticket from Liverpool, early morning for departure, and early evening for when you leave.
- 2 night in a hotel room, bus trip from your city, early departure on the first day, leaving on the evening of the last day.
Here’s the information you’ll need in order to complete the form:
- Name of student film: Life in Reverse (Working Title)
- Name of Student Producer on behalf etc..: Andrea Paternuosto
- Dates of Filming: 1st 2nd and 3rd of April
- Your involvement: Actor/Dancer
